Watch Dogs

-a game that should have been perfect

Every respectable gamer has already played this game - Watch Dogs. This game is the recent project of the Ubisoft Montreal team (the Assassin's Creed series), it is an action game that takes place in an open world environment (in Chicago), city that the main character controls using several hacking operations. In theory, this last characteristic should have pull out Watch Dogs of anonymity and to raise the Ubisoft creation about the other game from the same category. But that didn't happened.

The Chicago from the game may be the most boring city that could exist on a planet. And I don't make references to its gloomy color palette that characterize the city, I make references to its people, thus the interactions with them.

The main character of the game is Aiden Pearce, a hacker that lends his services to rich people. A missions does not take place just the way Pearce thought and things go crazy, the employers turning against employee. A very closed character to Pearce is killed, making him the vigilante and to spread justice all over the city. In theory, this is a classic revenge story, but practically Watch Dogs is based on a pretty predictable, boring story.

But also the rest of the characters are pretty boring. Aiden Pearce has in most situation a poker face, and the rest of the cast seem to be in the game just to push the story forward and not to create a credible, exciting adventure.

Besides it's mainly a single player game, another downside fact is that most missions copy on the previous one. As I said above - predictable. I haven't such a gameplay approach since the first Assassin's Creed and after that game I really hoped never play another one like that, but seems that karma is a really a bitch.

As I said in the previous paragraphs, the hacking should have been the defining element of the game, that something that should have make a difference among games from this category. In a certain way it is, but don't expect to be a real simulation of the normal hacking. In Watch Dog, hacking is simply an option which appears in certain situation and can be activated by pushing a button. The only advantages that can come from this hacking option is the fact that from Aiden's phone you can control the traffic lights, you can open garage doors, and later on after a few upgrades, barriers, bridges and other elements that can be used to create chaos in traffic. Even though you may find this boring, in some scenarios are vital to solve some quests that imply police chasing or paid assassins that follow you.

A plus that I can give to this game is the fact that it has a well impressive crafting system that allows Aiden to build all kind of tools like grenades or sticky bombs and other complicated devices, tools that can be used to distract enemies or even to cut electricity all over the city. Yet another good aspect is the fact that every completed mission gives you experience (skill points) and in this way you can unlock new skills.

But, I don't want to take you the pleasure to discover all these by yourself. Watch Dogs is a pretty boring game, and I can't say I recommend even though it has a couple of good aspects. It's up to you.
